Not Martinez – Man United ready to launch onslaught for ‘phenomenal’ goalkeeper who can replace Onana
Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on rising Belgian goalkeeper Senne Lammens, identifying him as the right profile to replace Andre Onana.
The Red Devils have been linked with several custodians over the past few weeks, especially following Onana’s recent injury, which might see him skip the first few official matches of the season.
In June, Emiliano Martinez emerged as a potential candidate for the role. But while the Aston Villa veteran had expressed his openness to join Ruben Amorim’s ranks, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Man Utd haven’t made any progress on this track this month, suggesting that the club is now focusing on other targets.
According to TalkSport journalist Alex Crook, United have now decided to step up their interest in Lammens, who is coming off a solid campaign at Royal Antwerp.

Man United rekindle interest in Senne Lammens
The Belgian has only turned 23 earlier this month, so he represents a significantly younger profile compared to 32-year-old Martinez. Lammens has already been linked with MUFC on some occasions in the past.
The shot-stopper rose through the ranks of Club Brugge, before being released in the summer of 2023. Nevertheless, the young custodian immediately bounced back after signing for Antwerp as a free agent, as his career has been on the up ever since.

Football Talent Scout, Jacek Kulig, hailed his ‘phenomenal’ performances from last season, suggesting he is now ready to make a career step up.
Lammens is tied to the Belgian top-flight club with a contract valid until June 2027, and Transfermarkt estimates his current value at €9 million. Hence, he could be an affordable target for Man Utd.
What would Lammens’ role be at Man Utd
At this stage, the Red Devils might struggle to offload the shaky Onana, whom they can’t afford to sell for anything less than £30 million due to his book value.
Nevertheless, INEOS would find it easier to get rid of the Cameroonian’s understudy, Altay Bayindir, and bring in Lammens as a new second-choice goalkeeper.
Stats in 24/25 | Appearances | Goals Conceded | Clean Sheets |
Senne Lammens | 41 | 52 | 10 |
Andre Onana | 50 | 61 | 11 |
Altay Bayindir | 10 | 18 | 3 |
Emiliano Martinez | 53 | 61 | 16 |
The Zottegem native would likely start as a second choice in name, but he would get the opportunity to prove his worth from the get-go since Onana might not recover from his injury in time for the Premier League opener against Arsenal, allowing the newcomer to stake his claim for the No.1 role.
