MUST responds to news that Manchester United is up for sale

Manchester United have been put up for sale by the Glazer family, the club has confirmed.

A statement issued on Tuesday night said that the Old Trafford club is beginning a process to explore strategic alternatives for the club. In other words, the Glazers are selling up.

The statement added: β€œAs part of this process, the Board will consider all strategic alternatives, including new investment into the club, a sale, or other transactions involving the Company.”

The news came after United announced they had terminated Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract. It’s potentially good news for Erik ten Hag because it might allow him build something for the future β€” to compete with Manchester City for Premier League titles as well as get United back into the Champions League.

We live in hope of having owners that care about the football club and don’t want to use it as a sports-washing project.

Anyhow, Manchester United Supporters’ Trust have issued a response to the club statement.

MUST statement in response to news that Manchester United is up for sale

It reads: β€œThe statement last night from Manchester United, that the club is up for sale, confirmed information we’d been hearing over recent days.

β€œOver the last 17 years Manchester United fans have been dismayed with the ownership of the club. Over that period, we have witnessed a decline on the playing side and a decline in our stadium. Until recently, any proper dialogue with fans groups had also been absent.

β€œWhilst supporters have long called for change, of course this has to be the right change.

β€œAt this moment in time our club needs new investment more than ever. That requires new ownership.

β€œAny prospective new owner or investor has to be committed to the culture, ethos and best traditions of the club.

β€œThey have to be willing to invest to restore United to former glories, and that investment must be real new money spent on the playing side and the stadium.

β€œFinally any new ownership structure must embed supporters, including a degree of fan share ownership, in their operating model.

β€œManchester United’s fans are its greatest asset and hold the key to unlocking the true value of any football club. That relationship has to be one of equals – sharing in ownership and and unified with the same goals.”
