Christian Eriksen provides injury update after Carabao Cup final
This week has turned out to be one of the best in Manchester Unitedβs modern history, with a memorable European victory over Barcelona followed by Erik ten Hagβs first trophy in charge of the club.
Ten Hag guided his men to a 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley to mark a successful debut campaign so far.
Christian Eriksen, one of the key players of Ten Hagβs reign, missed the game after being on the sidelines for the last month. The Danish international sustained a serious ankle injury against Reading at the end of last month and it is unclear whether he will feature again this season.
Speaking after the game, Eriksen outlined his recovery, admitting that he is improving after watching his team-mates record a well-deserved trophy.
βI am feeling well,β Eriksen told MUTV after the game, according to the Manchester Evening News.
βIt is always boring to be in a boot and to be on crutches, but I have left the crutches and am now only in a boot, and next week that should be gone then finally start learning to walk. But it feels good.
βItβs been nice. Obviously, you want to play. Watching from the stands is more nerve-racking than actually playing, but I kept my calm, and it is nice to see how happy they are. I am just happy that we won the game.β
SNβs verdictβ¦
Eriksenβs importance to this side in the first half of the season cannot be underestimated β he was absolutely central to Ten Hagβs plans and his absence remains a huge miss.
United lack his composure in midfield when heβs not playing but the loan signing of Marcel Sabitzer has turned out to be a good short-term solution.
Ten Hag will, however, be hoping that Eriksen recovers to take part in the final few weeks of the season.
