Erik ten Hag must sanction departures to sign top striker this summer
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag will need to sell a number of players if he wants to sign a new first-choice striker this summer, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Reds signed Wout Weghorst on loan from Burnley as a stop-gap option until the end of the season, but I donβt think anyone can argue that heβs a prolific goalscorer, which is what Erik ten Hag needs alongside the in-form Marcus Rashford.
Weghorst has been a good addition and we can see why the other players enjoy playing with him. He presses relentlessly and his link up play has benefited Rashford massively, so I wouldnβt be against signed him as a back-up option.
The two biggest names being linked with a summer move to Old Trafford include Harry Kane and Victor Osimhen. Let us know in the comments section which player you want most and why.
Summer Departures
Manchester United trio Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay and Anthony Martial have attracted interest from West Ham.
David Moyes reportedly likes the trio, who pocket a combined Β£500,000-per-week at Old Trafford, and has shortlisted them as potential summer targets. However, it remains to be seen if Moyes will still be Hammers manager at the end of the season.
A change a management could scupper transfer plans.
Newcastle are also linked with a move for McTominay, with Eddie Howe reportedly being a huge fan.
There are also some doubts over the futures of David de Gea, Phil Jones and Tom Heaton. All of their deals expire at the end of the season and they could be all let to walk away on Bosman deals.
However, Sheth has told GIVEMESPORTΒ United will only be able to bring in a new striker if they offload some of their fringe players in the coming months.
Sheth said: βItβs always difficult to get a big deal done in January. I know Chelsea spent even more money in January than they did in the summer transfer window, but that just seems to be the exception.
βParticularly with whatβs going on behind the scenes at United, I donβt think we were expecting big, big money to be spent in the January transfer window.
βI think it will go into the summer. Thatβs not to say that United wonβt be a little bit hamstrung with finances if itβs still the current situation because I think there will still need to be a few departures here and there due to having quite a big squad.
βTheyβve got a lot of young players and a lot of senior professionals who probably arenβt getting the game-time that they want. Not only will United have to look at that, but the players themselves will have to look at that as well.
βI think youβll see a few departures in the summer, as well as Erik ten Hag trying to remould that squad by bringing in that centre forward.β
