Mason Greenwood close to joining La Liga club amid frantic search for new suitor
Mason Greenwood is in talks with Getafe over a season-long loan from Manchester United, as per The Athletic.
David Ornstein has reported that the deal is βcloseβ.
The Red Devils confirmed in August that they had reached the decision, along with the forward, that Greenwood should continue his career away from Old Trafford.
It came after the 21-year-oldΒ had charges of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped in February 2023 after key witnesses withdrew their participation from the case.
United had provisionally planned for Greenwood to return to the first-team squad this season but after said plans were leaked, supporters, politicians and domestic abuse charities all voiced their upset and distaste at the prospect of the outcast playing for the club again, forcing a U-turn.

Now, the board are actively seeking a new destination for the Carrington graduate before the transfer window closes, which is making talks significantly harder as there is less than an hour left to get a deal over the line.
Getafe are confident that it can be done, though, and are currently finalising the paperwork, Ornstein has confirmed.
