Erik ten Hag urges Manchester United players to create more chances for out-of-form forwards
Erik ten Hag has called for his players to try and create more chances after his forwards have come under fire for their lack of output.Β
Manchester Unitedβs attackers have been heavily criticised for their minimal contributions so far this term, especially due to the amount of money the club have parted with to boast such firepower in the frontline. For example, Rasmus Hojlund (Β£72 million in total) is yet to score a Premier League goal and Antony (Β£85m) has zero goals or assists in all competitions.
Marcus Rashford is struggling to replicate his prolific form from last season, Jadon Sancho, who cost United Β£72m, will leave in January, and Alejandro Garnacho is still adjusting to his role in the senior setup, being regularly used as an off-the-bench, rotation option β as is Anthony Martial.
Hojlund, 20, is one player that the Old Trafford faithful are being more patient with. Yes, youβd expect a little more output at this stage of his career, but itβs not as if heβs getting chances served on a plate week in, week out. The team just lack that creative spark at the moment and he, unfortunately, is on the end of it awaiting a moment of magic.
Ten Hag backs Hojlund
Ten Hag was asked for his thoughts on the summer signing in Tuesdayβs press conference and said, via ManUtd.com: βI think he integrates very good. He has scored already three goals in the Champions League, which is very good for an integration period. I think as a team we can be better in possession so we can create more and better chances and that will also give our offensive players more opportunities to score goals.
βWhat we have to work on is a stable starting XI or at least 12 or 13 players and then the routines will be better and we will create better chances but I think, as I said, social-wise he integrated very good in team and in the club and from a football perspective he has already scored three goals in the Champions League which is very good performance and from here-on he has to take it on and improve. That is the character from Rasmus. He wants to improve every day so it is lovely to work with him, with such characters.β
