Andre Onana reflects on devastating Brentford draw
Andre Onana has grown into one of Manchester Unitedβs most consistent players, with the Cameroonian goalkeeper often being the difference between a clean sheet and three goals conceded.
The former Inter star was at his best again at Brentford on Saturday night but he couldnβt stop Brentford from scoring a 99th-minute equaliser just three minutes after Mason Mount had scored his first goal for the Reds.
It looked like United were going to claim yet another spectacular late win but the night ended in disappointment and speaking after the game, Onana reflected on the results.
βI feel sad because we are Manchester United, so it doesnβt matter who you play. Everywhere we go, we have to win,β Onana told MUTV.
βWe gave away this game in the end. We did a fantastic job defending, it was not our best game but the most important thing was to win. So, yeah, itβs difficult.
βThe most important thing is the victory of the team.
βItβs good when you contribute and you have a victory. Of course, we didnβt lose this game but the way we conceded that goal is bad for all of us because we are in this together. We blocked shots and made saves together.
βAs a leader and experienced player, we have to take responsibility and always stay positive because itβs the biggest club in the country.
βWe have to continue working hard and be humble. I know we will stick together because we did it in the last month. I hope we end in the top four.β
Had United been able to close the game out, just six points would have separated the Reds from fifth-placed Tottenham but the gap has now been increased to eight points.
With nine games remaining, itβs highly unlikely that United will be able to close that gap. Ten Hag has a lot of work ahead of him going into the summer.
