Experienced United man mulls over La Liga switch with four clubs shortlisted
Raphael Varane faces an uncertain future at this stage of his illustrious career, with all signs pointing towards a Manchester United exit this summer.
Indeed, the Frenchmanβs contract expires in June, and while it would perhaps make some sense to keep him in the squad for depth, itβs his eye-watering wages of Β£340,000 per week that the Red Devils hierarchy are keen on slashing from the payroll.
Having joined the club in 2021 from Real Madrid, Varane has played an integral role under each United manager since then; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Ralf Rangnick and Erik ten Hag have all utilised the experienced centre-half, although the latter used him slightly more sporadically at the start of the current term.
In Ten Hagβs maiden campaign, the defender developed a formidable partnership alongside fellow stalwart Lisandro Martinez. However, they have since struggled with frequent injury woes and are both currently sidelined.
Varane eyes his next suitor
Spanish outlet Todo Fichajes claims that Varane is mulling over a return to La Liga, where he spent 10 years with Los Blancos and won three La Liga titles, four Champions League titles and a host of other major honours.
It isnβt a Madrid reunion heβs after, though, as the report states that the 31-year-old is considering a move to the likes of Atletico Madrid, Real Betis, Real Sociedad or Sevilla.
