Media claims one United star is โdying to be trainedโ by another manager as club director flies in to negotiate his sale
The Italian press are certainly doing their utmost to lay the groundwork for Scott McTominayโs potential Napoli transfer.ย
Since the beginning of the transfer window, the Scotland international has faced an uncertain future at Manchester United. Now, with only seven days to go, the club are none the wiser as to whether heโll remain at Old Trafford for the duration of the 2024/2025 campaign.
A host of clubs have stepped forward to establish their interest in McTominay, including the likes of Galatasaray, Fenerbache, Napoli, Crystal Palace and Fulham. Only the latter accelerated their efforts to get a deal over the line by submitting two bids โ both of which were rejected โ but have now ended their pursuit after signing alternative option Sander Berge.
Now, the more concrete suitor of the bunch is the Naples-based outfit. Sporting director Giovanni Manna flew to England recently in hopes of hashing out a deal with United chiefs, though the midfielder is seemingly no closer to completing a move away.
Valued in the region of ยฃ25-30 million, itโs thought that Napoli are unable to match such a price, hence putting forth the proposal of a loan deal. This was swiftly rebuffed by the Reds, as they would gain nothing from such an agreement.
A fresh report from Calciomercatoย today claims that the 27-year-old is โdying to be trainedโ by Antonio Conte, which we canโt help but question.
Stretty Newsโ verdictโฆ
Of course, he may hold the experienced manager in great esteem and value his coaching methods, but McTominay has been associated with United since the age of five.
He is a boyhood Red and has previously divulged how his family attend matches week in and week out, whether that be home, away or Europe.
The Lancaster-born ace is also fresh off the back of winning the FA Cup with the club, having also reigned victorious in the Carabao Cup the season prior; success will always taste that bit better when itโs for the team you were born into supporting.
