Man Utd ‘optimistic’ about signing ‘incredible’ star despite unexpected twist

Manchester United remain confident they’ll reach the finish line first in the race to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.

With Matheus Cunha officially unveiled as their first summer signing, INEOS can turn their attention towards other summer reinforcements.

While the identity of the club’s next centre-forward remains anyone’s guess at the moment (especially with all the drama surrounding Viktor Gyokeres), signing Mbeumo has been a crystal clear objective for the Red Devils.

The 25-year-old is coming off a sensational campaign, scoring 20 Premier League goals for the Bees, with his now-former manager, Thomas Frank, hailing him and his teammate Yoane Wissa as ‘incredible’.

Brentford turned down United’s opening bid for Bryan Mbeumo

Man Utd have already launched a first bid for Mbeumo worth £45m plus £10m, but it has been rejected by Brentford who are holding out for £70 million.

Last week, Fabrizio Romano said he expects the two clubs to reach a compromise in the region of £60-65 million, but United have yet to register any progress on this particular front ever since, prompting some concern amongst the club’s supporters.

In the meantime, an unexpected plot saw Tottenham appoint Frank as their new head coach. Man Utd fans now fear that the Danish tactician will be eyeing a reunion with his pupil in North London.

Man United believe they will prevail in Mbeumo race

According to German journalist Christopher Michel, there might be some concern at United regarding competition from Spurs, but the management remains optimistic about luring Mbeumo to Carrington.

The transfer market expert adds that the Red Devils expect to finalise the transfer in time to allow the Cameroon international to join his new teammates for the start of pre-season in July.

Hence, the next few days could be crucial on this front, as Spurs’ true intentions should be revealed. If the Europa League winners genuinely intend to reunite Frank with Mbeumo, they will have to launch an onslaught sooner rather than later in order to gain some ground on United who have a substantial head start.
