‘Concrete conversations’: Man Utd take big step to complete next signing after face-to-face meeting

Manchester United have stepped up their efforts to sign Benjamin Sesko in recent days and are vying with Newcastle United to secure his signature.

The two Premier League clubs are neck and neck in pursuit of Sesko after missing out on their own respective forward targets; Newcastle are also preparing for the potential departure of prolific talisman Alexander Isak, who informed the board of his desire to explore alternative options last week.

From United’s perspective, while they can navigate the new campaign with a reduced squad due to their lack of European football, a new striker is almost essential if they want to be competing amongst those at the top end of the table.

Alas, both sides have landed on Sesko as the suitable candidate to take them to the next level.

For the first stage of the window, it was widely anticipated he’d join Arsenal, having been locked in negotiations for several weeks. That was until the Gunners refused to meet RB Leipzig’s demands and pulled out of the race before turning their attention to Viktor Gyokeres, whom they signed for a £64 million package over the weekend.

Newcastle are willing to pay whatever it takes to add the Slovenian international to their ranks before 2025/2026 gets underway, but can only advance to the next stage of talks if he actually green-lights the transfer.

On the other hand, United will likely try their luck in a lump sum plus add-ons proposal – just as they did with Bryan Mbeumo.

United hold direct talks with Leipzig over sesko

Fabrizio Romano has provided a positive update this afternoon, confirming the Reds have been in touch with Leipzig.

“Sesko is taking his time to assess all options [and] consider projects, including Manchester United. Sources reveal to GIVEMESPORT that Manchester United had direct contact with RB Leipzig in the last 48 hours to start concrete conversations about the Sesko deal details, with suggestions on a meeting taking place face-to-face in the past few days,” said Romano.
