Newcastle frontrunners to sign 16 y/o Republic of Ireland talent Romero Akachukwu amid Manchester United links

Republic of Ireland youth international Romeo Akachukwu has reportedly caught the attention of a number of English clubs, including Manchester United.

AkachukwuΒ  is one of many promising players to emerge from the Waterford FC academy, but his performances at the recent U17s European Championships have attracted links to multiple elite clubs.

The 16-year-old was instrumental as Ireland advanced to the quarter-finals stage of the competition where they were eliminated by Spain.

However, Newcastle World believe Akachukwu will visit Newcastle United next week ahead of a potential move.

The report also claims that Newcastle were not alone when showing admiration for the player. Alongside the Magpies were Premier League giants Manchester United and Arsenal.

The versatile midfielder will be hoping to complete his big switch across the pond to a Premier League outfit this summer, especially as Evan Ferguson stands tall as the latest inspiration for young Irish footballers after moving to Brighton from Bohemians.

Akachukwu is highly thought of at Waterford FC, a club with an ever growing academy, and his remarkable feat of playing for the club at every age level from U-13 to first-team shows the type of work being done by the League of Ireland outfit to develop their emerging stars.
