11 Manchester United players qualify for World Cup quarter-finals
The halfway point of this winterβs World Cup has passed and the majority of Manchester United players remain in the storied competition, with a whopping eleven stars still fighting for world glory.
Hannibal Mejbri, Christian Eriksen and Facundo Pellistri are, unfortunately, the players to have been eliminated from the tournament.
Earlier on Tuesday, another pair of Reds secured qualification as Portugal comfortably dispatched Switzerland, with Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot now set to face Morocco in the quarter-final.
In the other quarter-final on that side of the bracket, four Reds could be in action when England take on France, the reigning World Champions.
Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have started all of Englandβs games so far, and Marcus Rashford is the Three Lionsβ joint-top goalscorer thus far.
Raphael Varane missed the opening game against Australia due to the injury he sustained at Stamford Bridge earlier this year but the 29-year-old has started their last three games.
Brazil are currently the favourites to win the tournament and Titeβs men have three representatives from Old Trafford, with Casemiro, in particular, playing a central role in the South American giantsβ chances of winning. The 30-year-old has been one of the most impressive players over the last two weeks.
Antony has been limited to substitute appearance so far, whilst Fred has started two games. Alex Telles, who is on loan at Sevilla, was ruled out for the rest of the tournament after sustaining an injury in their final group game.
Argentina and the Netherlands will take each other on in the first quarter-final and Tyrell Malacia will be hoping to earn his first start for his nation in Qatar, whilst Lisandro Martinez is hoping to register his second.
Martinez started their 2-0 win over Mexico but was again dropped for the following game, with Lionel Scaloni currently preferring Tottenham defender Cristian Romero.
