AC Milan boss confirms Youssouf Fofana interest amid Manchester United links
AC Milan manager Paulo Fonseca has hinted that the Italian giants will step up their interest in AS Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana.
The Frenchman has been strongly linked with a move to United, with the Reds also determined to add a new midfielder to the squad before transfer deadline day.
While United appear to be prioritising a move for Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Manuel Ugarte, Fonseca has admitted that Fofana is the missing piece in his midfield.
Asked if a midfielder is what is missing from his team, Fonseca said (via Manchester Evening News): βThe centre-midfielder is Fofana, we all know that.β
I donβt think Fonseca would say this publicly unless he received assurances from the player that he was keen on signing for Milan.
This is exactly what transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported this morning.
In a fresh update, Romano said Fofana has made it βclearβ he only wants to join Milan this summer.
Youssouf Fofana has been clear with all clubs approaching him since July: he wants to play for AC Milan.
Several reports on Premier League clubs keen but it was never close as Fofanaβs waiting for Milan.

Fofana was named as a potential target for United, but it sounds like Ugarte is the priority target to improve Erik ten Hagβs midfield.
