Casemiro injury update as Brazil prepare for Uruguay clash
Manchester United are facing an anxious wait on Casemiroβs injury status following the midfielderβs withdrawal from Brazilβs 1-1 draw with Venezuela earlier this week.
Casemiro started the game but was taken off with ten minutes to go after appearing to struggle with an ankle problem and speaking after the game, the Brazil manager admitted that his star midfielderβs injury was a concern.
The five-time Champions League winner has experienced a mixed start to the season and although his goalscoring form is at an all-time high, he has struggled to hold the midfield down as he did in his first campaign.
An injury on top of that search for form could not come at a worse time and now, there is an update on his condition. According to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte, it has been claimed that Casemiro was taken off against Venezuela due to a twisted ankle.
As per the report, Casemiro sustained the injury earlier in the game but decided to keep playing until he was withdrawn in a double substitution, with his midfield partner also removed at that point.
Now, itβs claimed that Casemiroβs ankle is badly swollen and he has not taken part in his sideβs preparations for their upcoming game against Uruguay.
Furthermore, with doubts over his presence against Uruguay becoming increasingly abundant, it is reported that Casemiro will undergo more testing on the issue today.
Ten Hag will hope that his midfield general is ready to return sooner rather than later as he cannot afford to lose yet another pivotal player to injury.
The return of club football next weekend sees United make the trip to face Sheffield United before two games against Copenhagen in the Champions League. Casemiro is suspended for the first game after his red card in the 3-2 loss against Galatasaray earlier this month.
