Championship club keen to take Manchester United winger on loan in January if opportunity arises

Sunderland would reportedly be keen on taking Amad Diallo back on loan in January if the opportunity arises, as per i Sport.

The Wearside outfit boasts a strong relationship with the Red Devils and would ideally be granted the addition of Amad back in their ranks for the second half of the campaign, in which they will again be pushing for a promotion spot after making last year’s play-offs.

Whether or not the Ivorian will be made available remains to be seen, but given United’s current situation, it seems unlikely; Amad is yet to feature for the club this term due to an injury he sustained in pre-season, so Erik ten Hag will be looking to test the youngster’s resolve in the top flight when he can.

As well as that, the injuries that have plagued United so far this season will have made the manager hesitant to depart with players in January, as he needs all the depth he can get – especially with fixtures coming thick and fast in all competitions.

Antony and Facundo Pellistri are currently the only natural options on the right flank due to Jadon Sancho’s expulsion and having another player available could prove pivotal when Amad returns to the fold.

United monitoring Sunderland goalkeeper

Meanwhile, United have joined rivals Manchester City in scouting the Black Cats’ U18s goalkeeper Matthew Young, who has been likened to former Sunderland star Jordan Pickford.

The 16-year-old rebuffed interest from Wolverhampton Wanderers last summer in favour of staying in the academy of his boyhood club, but is quickly garnering interest from other Premier League giants.

i Paper states: β€œA confident, agile goalkeeper who is good with his feet, Sunderland have high hopes for Young and have mapped out a career path for the teenager.

β€œBut i understands that his stock is rising in the scouting world, with City’s talent spotters regularly watching him in action for the club’s U18 side this season. i has been told he is also on the FA’s radar and an England age group call-up is expected.”
