Diogo Dalot insists Manchester United have to be obsessed with winning trophies

Manchester United’s Diogo Dalot has insisted the team must have an β€œobsession” with winning trophies.Β

The defender also stressed the importance of the Carabao Cup, and how it ranks equal to other silverware on offer.

This comes ahead of the Reds’ quarter-final tie with Charlton Athletic this evening in the Carabao Cup. The competition provides a great opportunity for United to lift their first trophy in five years, as well as Erik ten Hag’s first in his first season in charge.

If United see off tonight’s opponents they are guaranteed to face a Premier League team in the next round, with rivals Manchester City a potential name in the hat.

United also remain in the FA Cup, Europa League and, depending on your optimism, the league title race. They sit joint-third in the table and nine points behind leaders Arsenal, having debatably overcome a more difficult run of fixtures before the World Cup.

Dalot on silverware obsession

The Portugal international spoke to fans via MUTV this week and touched specifically on the subject of silverware. He said: β€œI think it has to be an obsession for us to win trophies, to win things.

β€œI think you guys feel even more than me, you are here longer than me, that we have to win. This club is about winning trophies.Β

β€œIt is about competing and fighting in every trophy that we are in. And this Carabao [Cup] is not smaller than a Champions League, than a Europa League.Β Obviously, it’s different dimensions but for us, it’s a trophy and we want to win it.”
