Erik ten Hag admits midfield star is still weeks away from first-team return
Erik ten Hag is facing new challenges every week this season as injuries to first-team regulars continue to plague his second campaign at the club.
United have struggled to build on the Dutchmanβs promising debut year but have turned their form around domestically, with United winning four of their last five games in the Premier League.
United did not come out of their latest win, the 1-0 defeat of Luton Town at Old Trafford, unscathed, however. Christian Eriksen was among the players to sustain a knock in the game and now, the manager has provided an update on the Danish internationalβs fitness.
βChristian will take a little bit longer,β Ten Hag is quoted as saying on the official Manchester United website. βIt will take some weeks until he will return.β
That means Eriksen has joined Casemiro on the sidelines and thus significantly weakening Unitedβs midfield, with the Brazil international not expected to feature again before the turn of the year.
As the timeline presented by Ten Hag would suggest, it is touch and go whether Eriksen will make an appearance in 2023 again but hopefully, he will return just in time for the busy festive schedule.
As things stand, Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat are Unitedβs only senior central midfielders although Mason Mount has been used in that position earlier this season.
