Erik ten Hag sets sights on Β£185m-valued midfield duo but faces competition from Premier League rivals
Erik ten Hag reportedly wants to bring both Mason Mount and Declan Rice to Manchester United this summer.
Speculation circulated yesterday regarding the Red Devilsβ interest in wantaway Chelsea star Mount, who is out of contract at the end of next season. He is unwilling to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge and should he leave, he prefers a move to United over Liverpool or Arsenal, with both sides interested in acquiring his signature.
United are believed to be readying a Β£55 million bid, however, the Blues value the 24-year-old at Β£85 million.
Now, it has been reported that United are set to join the race for Rice along with Arsenal and Chelsea, according to the Daily Mail. Mikel Artetaβs entourage are willing to offer Β£90 million but the Irons want Β£100 million to let go of their academy graduate-captain this summer.
Champions League qualification crucial in Rice pursuit
Riceβs desire to compete in the Champions League next season has all but ruled Chelsea out of the running and with United needing just one point to book their place in the mix, it certainly makes them a plausible option.
With Ten Hag targeting both England internationals, it gives the young midfielders, who have been close friends since childhood, the chance to play alongside each other at club level.
