FA charge Manchester United with improper conduct for incident vs Chelsea

Manchester United have been charged with improper conduct, with a breach of FA Rule E20.1 following last week’s 1-1 draw versus Chelsea in the Premier League.

A statement from the FA reads: β€œManchester United FC allegedly failed to ensure that its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion in the 84th minute, and the club has until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.”

United have been given until Friday 28 October 2022 to provide a response.

It seems to be the case that common sense doesn’t exist in the competitive game these days. We all know the authorities are always trying to take responsibility away from referees, but to expect professionals at this level of sport not to contest decisions is ludicrous.

I don’t think United are leading by example in the wrong way and the FA are throwing the book at us for minor offences. They are likely to come down tougher on us if we persist with the improper conduct charges, though.

What are Manchester United being charged by the FA?

Following the award of Chelsea’s penalty at Stamford Bridge, several United players protested Stuart Attwell’s decision, which has resulted in a subsequent FA charge for breach of rule E20.1.

McTominay was punished shortly after coming off the bench grabbing hold of Armando Broja as the pair fought to win a crossed ball.

United players rightly felt aggrieved at the decision given how often similar incidents go unpunished every week in the Premier League.
