Facundo Pellistri makes initial Uruguay squad for World Cup
Manchester United youngster Facundo Pellistri has been called up by Uruguay for the 2022 World Cup, despite not making a single appearance for his club this season.
Pellistri, 20, has become a mainstay in Diego Alonso’s side and it is clear that the Uruguayan coach sees something special in the young winger.
Although Pellistri has not managed to get any senior football since joining United in 2020 following a £7.2 million deal with Penarol.
The winger has been limited to appearances in the U21s side as well as two loan spells to La Liga, which didn’t result in the game time he would have wanted to develop his game.
Pellistri has made the preliminary squad for the World Cup next month, which means he can still miss out on the final cut.
