Former Manchester United striker believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe investment is step in the right direction

As we await official confirmation from Manchester United on Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s minority acquisition, more former players and pundits are having their way on what this means for the future of the club.

The finer details are still being ironed out on the deal and Sir Jim Ratcliffe is expected to take full control of sporting operations at the club. That, if true, can only be a good thing if it means the Glazers have less of an influence at United.

Former Manchester United striker Dwight Yorke has had his say and he believes Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Ineos could step the Reds into the right direction.

Speaking to MegaDice.com, Yorke said (quotes via Manchester Evening News): β€œSir Jim Ratcliffe is coming now and he’s bought 25% of the club. It’s hard to comment on the details, but that tells me he won’t be in full control, so at least that’s a quarter of the club in the right direction! It may not have full control, but it gives Ratcliffe enough to get the club to a certain standard. You need to win the domestic league to start attracting the best players, and if we don’t do that, we can forget about players like Kylian Mbappe right now. You have to win and show intent to compete against the likes of Man City and Liverpool.”

It’s clear that Yorke feels this is better than just having the Glazer family in charge.

United need change, even if takes a while to get completely rid of the Glazers.

The Reds travel to Goodison Park on Sunday but it looks like Ratcliffe’s deal won’t be announced until after that.
