Former Manchester United striker Andy Cole has urged Erik ten Hag to look for a younger goalscorer than Harry Kane this summer.

It is understood that Tottenham captain Harry Kane is Manchester Unitedโ€™s priority target at the end of the season, with just a year left on his current deal at the London club.

While Kane looks set to be Ten Hagโ€™s number one target this summer, Napoliโ€™s Victor Osimhen is a younger alternative attracting a lot of interest around Europe after a successful season in Italy.

It has been another disappointing season for Spurs โ€“ missing out on the top four and trophyless โ€“ but Kane has still done well on an individual front, scoring 30 goals across all competitions (via WhoScored).

When it comes to signing a new striker, Andy Cole has urged caution about United needing to spend again on a younger option shortly after and should therefore avoid Kane.

โ€œManchester United canโ€™t go with a short-term solution again,โ€ Cole toldย William Hill, as quoted by the Manchester Evening News. โ€œThey canโ€™t go and spend ยฃ80 million or ยฃ100 million on Harry Kane.

โ€œIn two yearsโ€™ time theyโ€™ll turn round and say to themselves, โ€˜heโ€™s 32, we need to get ourselves another strikerโ€™. They canโ€™t afford to find themselves in that position again.

โ€œWhen you look at the recognised strikers that Manchester United have had, you look at the likes of Robin van Persie, but the crazy thing is that he only stayed for two years, and ever since then it has just been one after another for two years.

โ€œA football club like Manchester United cannot just keep having different strikers for two years at a time, itโ€™s ridiculous. They know now that they have to sign someone who is going to give them five years.โ€
