Harry Maguire blames communication with De Gea for struggles at United

Manchester United defender Harry Maguire believes that David de Gea’s β€˜lack of communication’ have contributed to his struggles.

Although Harry Maguire kept the captain’s armband following Erik ten Hag’s arrival, the England international has lost his place in the team, with Bruno Fernandes taking the captaincy role on a temporary basis in his place.

The 29-year-old has not started a Premier League game since United lost their two first matches of the season, however, it was the 4-0 defeat to Brentford that broke the camel’s back. Ten Hag has selected Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at centre-back ever since.

According to Mark Ogden of ESPN, Maguire believes De Gea’s lack of communication was a problem for him, while the centre-back also struggled with the keeper’s unwillingness to push higher up the pitch.

Maguire’s struggles at club level have been overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate. The defender was selected for the Three Lions’ squad for their final two fixtures before the World Cup in Qatar later this year.

It will be an almighty task for Maguire to get back into the team at this rate and I don’t think De Gea’s place is safe forever.
