Harry Maguire blames communication with De Gea for struggles at United
Manchester United defender Harry Maguire believes that David de Geaβs βlack of communicationβ have contributed to his struggles.
Although Harry Maguire kept the captainβs armband following Erik ten Hagβs arrival, the England international has lost his place in the team, with Bruno Fernandes taking the captaincy role on a temporary basis in his place.
The 29-year-old has not started a Premier League game since United lost their two first matches of the season, however, it was the 4-0 defeat to Brentford that broke the camelβs back. Ten Hag has selected Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane at centre-back ever since.
According to Mark Ogden of ESPN, Maguire believes De Geaβs lack of communication was a problem for him, while the centre-back also struggled with the keeperβs unwillingness to push higher up the pitch.
Maguireβs struggles at club level have been overlooked by England manager Gareth Southgate. The defender was selected for the Three Lionsβ squad for their final two fixtures before the World Cup in Qatar later this year.
It will be an almighty task for Maguire to get back into the team at this rate and I donβt think De Geaβs place is safe forever.
