Harry Maguire lacks required quality to play for Manchester United, says Saha

It is a shared view among Manchester United fans that Harry Maguire’s days at Old Trafford are numbered.

The writing was on the wall earlier this season when the England international lost his place in the starting line-up. Erik ten Hag signed Lisandro Martinez in the summer and was quick to partner him with Lisandro Martinez in the heart of United’s defence.

Ten Hag is currently without his two preferred centre-backs due to injuries, however, Maguire still can’t rediscover his starting berth as he’s behind Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw in the pecking order.

In turn, Maguire’s future looks bleak under the Dutch manager.

Former United striker Louis Saha has praised the defender’s application, but he doesn’t believe he has the required qualities to succeed at the club.

β€œA lot of the confidence at Manchester United comes the front line, but also the defence,” Saha told Paddy Power, as per The Metro.

β€œWe have to wait to see who will start next season alongside Lisandro MartΓnez and RaphaΓ«l Varane. The captain of the club [Harry Maguire] has acted very professionally and did not make any noise or complaints.Β

β€œBut based on his quality, he has to find another club because this season has been awful for him. Looking at the midfield area, there is a lot of creativity as well but it’s important to see a very strong pack. They need the balance in defence and midfield.”

It remains to be seen who will be interested in signing Maguire in the summer. He could be a very good signing for one of the mid-table Premier League teams or move abroad to Serie A like Chris Smalling did for AS Roma.
