Harry Maguire urges Manchester United to build on Brentford win

Manchester United are back to winning ways in the Premier League after a highly dramatic game against Brentford earlier this weekend, with Erik ten Hag’s men scoring twice in stoppage time to secure the win.

Scott McTominay was introduced in the 87th minute and it was the Scotland star who would write his name across the pitch with his first strike in the 94th minute before scoring the winner three minutes later.

Former United captain Harry Maguire was one of several changes in the backline going into the game and the centre-back was at the heart of United’s move leading up to the winning goal.

It was Maguire’s header that dropped perfectly for McTominay to nod in and now, speaking after the game, he has spoken on the importance of building on this win.

β€œThat was a really important win. Obviously it has been a difficult time for us at the start of this season,” Maguire told Sky Sports, via the Manchester Evening News.

β€œWe’ve not had the results that we, as a club, demand. Like I said, I think the season must start now.Β This must be a turning point for us all, as individuals and as a club. We must kick on from this.”

β€œI’m always ready when I’m playing. I work hard in training and keep fit every day, and I’m happy that I contributed to a win.”

Maguire was not expected to be a regular fixture on the side this season and that will still not be case but he stood up to the challenge on Saturday, coming out of the game as one of the few United players that impressed.

Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez remain Ten Hag’s preferred choices but injuries to the pair have allowed other players to get their chance, with Jonny Evans also making his second start of the campaign against the Bees.
