βI did everything I couldβ β Phil Jones shares heartfelt letter to Manchester United fans
Manchester United have announced Phil Jones will leave Old Trafford this summer when his contract expires.
The club are wasting no time in announcing the inevitable because nobody expected Jones to remain at the club next season due to injuries.
Following the announcement on Friday morning, Jones took to Twitter to send a message to the fans:
βTo wear this shirt just once, to wear this badge and represent everyone associated with it, was an honour,β Jones wrote.
βI wish I could have played more. I wish I could have given more to the many squads I played alongside. I will say, from the bottom of my heart, I did everything I could. I did everything the medical team asked of me.β
He added: βIβve said before that I found it hard to even speak to me team-mates because I was hurt that I couldnβt help them. I was hurt that my family couldnβt see me on matchdays, and you feel like youβre letting people down.β

Jones hasnβt been able to train with the team this season due to ongoing issues, but we hope that he gets more time on the pitch in the next chapter of his career.
According to The Athletic, Jones suffered a relapse of his long-term knee injury on the first day of pre-season.
That means he never got a chance to make an impression on Erik ten Hag or his coaching staff, which is a shame for a player who was held in such high regard by Sir Alex Ferguson.
Jones and his family were present at Carrington this week to say their goodbyes. The defender was also presented with a framed shirt by technical director Darren Fletcher.
We would like to wish Jones the very best of luck in the future.
