INEOS chief Sir Dave Brailsford breaks silence on Manchester United takeover

INEOS’ director of sport, Sir Dave Brailsford, has been quizzed on the Manchester United takeover process.

We already know that when reporters get a chance to speak to anyone involved in the takeover there’s very little that can be said due to NDAs [Non-Disclosure Agreements].

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani are frontrunners in the race to buy the club, although there are fears that the process could drag on into the new season.

Brailsford, who is involved in INEOS’ bid for United, also works at NICE and is principal of Team Sky.

At the Tour de France, Brailsford stressed that INEOS and Ratcliffe are still hopeful that a takeover deal can be agreed with the Glazer family.

Speaking to ITV Sport, Brailsford said (via Daily Mail): β€œObviously we’ve been involved and it’s something that we’re very keen to do.

β€œIt’s not something we can discuss in detail, we’ve got to sign up to NDAs and all the rest of it. But it’s an ongoing process and we’d very much like to do it.

β€œTo be custodians of one of the biggest sporting teams, brands, in the world and trying to really support the team and go back to the success they deserve. And also the fanbase.

β€œI’ve worked in Manchester for a long time, we saw the team become a global phenomenon, Team Sky have done the same. I know Manchester really well so you get a sense of what the club is all about and what the fans want. If we’re part of the process, we hope to do that.”

Everyone is running out of patience with the takeover process as it feels like the Glazer family are leading us on.

There has been suggestions that the Glazers are holding out for Β£6 billion, while both offers on the table after closer to the Β£5 billion region.

Ultimately I’ve given up hope until the moment I see something confirmed, but it sounds like they will be still around when the new season kicks off.

Still stinking out the place.
