Luke Shaw adds to incredible statistic with World Cup assist vs Iran
Luke Shawβs increasingly successful England career took another positive turn on Monday as the 27-year-old starred for the Three Lions in their impressive 6-2 win over Iran.
The comprehensive victory means England have already grabbed a stranglehold of their group standings, with Wales and the USA drawing in the other fixture.
Shaw was involved to get things going in the game against Iran, with the United full-back assisting Jude Bellingham for the opening goal in the first half.
The assist was typically timely for Shaw in England colours and it confirmed an extension to his incredible record under Gareth Southgate.
According to Statman Dave, Shaw now has five goal involvements in his last five appearances in tournament football for England. Shaw was directly involved in goals in three out of Englandβs for knockout games at last yearβs European Championship, which includes his strike in the final.
Going into the tournament, he was one of several United players under the microscope for his form since that European Championship but his place in the England side is now nailed down.
Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell, who was his main rival for the left-back position, was ruled out of the tournament earlier this year.
England will now face the USA in their next game on Friday and victory over the USMNT could secure top spot already for three Reds.
