Man Utd to continue Frenkie de Jong pursuit despite Casemiro arrival

Manchester United are set for a frantic end to the transfer window after spending nearly all of the summer trying to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona.

United’s pursuit of the 25-year-old has lasted for over three months but with 10 days remaining, it’s becoming increasingly unlikely that Erik ten Hag’s wish of a reunion is fulfilled.

Earlier this week, United confirmed that Casemiro will be joining the club from Real Madrid and that has also put any deal to bring De Jong to Old Trafford in doubt.

That suggestion has now been squashed, however. According to The Mirror, United will continue to pursue a deal to sign De Jong despite the imminent arrival of Casemiro.

As per the report, the Glazer family have agreed to loosen the purse strings and allow Ten Hag to spend his way out of United’s poor start to the season.

In addition to De Jong, it’s believed that United are also interested in signing PSV star Cody Gakpo and Ajax winger Antony. United have already agreed a fee with Barcelona for De Jong whilst there is trouble at Ajax after Antony missed Friday’s training session.

Furthermore, an insider has hinted that United are ready to push hard to sign their targets: β€œUnited are going into the final days of the transfer window with all guns blazing,” a source is quoted as saying by The Mirror.

SN’s verdict…
The elephant in the room is the Glazer family’s sudden willingness to spend money – at least that’s how some people will react. In reality, it’s more of the club’s money being spent.

If rumours of a proposed takeover are true, the Glazers are not going to suddenly start spending their own money after all these years of refusing to do so.

Nevertheless, on the pitch, Ten Hag is desperate for reinforcements and landing De Jong would still be a huge coup. He remains Ten Hag’s number one target this summer.
