Manchester United announce seventh sale of the summer as they bid farewell to another Carrington graduate

Manchester United have confirmed this morning that Hannibal Mejbri has completed a permanent move to Burnley.

The deal sees United gain an initial Β£5.4 million, which could rise to Β£9.4m later down the line. They also retain an initial 50 per cent sell-on clause, a buyback clause, and the opportunity to match any future bids should the club wish to bring him back to Old Trafford.

Nonetheless, the move provides Hannibal with an opportunity to kick on in his senior career after a tumultuous 2023/2024 campaign. He featured sporadically under Erik ten Hag in the first half of the term but did achieve a momentous milestone when scoring his first-ever United goal at Old Trafford.

In the January window, he swapped England for Spain to join Sevilla on loan, yet proceeded to feature in just six of the 18 matches they played with Hannibal in the squad.

Now, he will remain in England but drop down to the Championship, where the Clarets will be hoping to seal promotion back to the top flight at their earliest opportunity, having suffered relegation to the second division last season.

The 21-year-old departs United after five years. He made 13 appearances in that time – also enjoying an impressive loan spell with Birmingham City in 2022/2023.

Hannibal reacts to Old Trafford exit

He took to Instagram to bid farewell to the Red Devils shortly before his move was confirmed, writing: β€œIt has been an honour to represent this incredible club for the last five years.

β€œI leave with so many special memories. Making my debut, scoring at Old Trafford and representing United in the Champions League.

β€œI’ll forever be grateful to the many staff and players who have helped me to develop as a player and grow from a boy to the man that I am today.”
