Manchester United could sign two strikers for the price of one
Manchester United could bolster Erik ten Hagβs attack with two forward players for the price of one.
Itβs no secret that Manchester United will be in the market for a goalscorer in the summer. After Cristiano Ronaldo was sent away with his terminated contract, Ten Hag looked to Wout Weghorst to do a job until the end of the season.
We still donβt know whether Ten Hag will keep Weghorst. While heβs not a brilliant finisher, thereβs no denying his impact in the team. The Dutchman works like a dog.
Anthony Martial is rarely fit, so if it wasnβt for Weghorstβs arrival in January, Ten Hag wouldnβt have many options. It obviously helps that Marcus Rashford has reached peak form this season and hopefully he can continue that for the remainder of the season.
This is why United may need to sign two forwards in the summer. Harry Kane was linked with a move but he could stay at Tottenham and Victor Osimhen has been shortlisted as another target after his stunning season at Napoli.
Both Kane and Osimhen would cost Β£100m+ in the summer, so The Express has looked at the idea of extending Unitedβs search for a goalscorer by recommending a move for Borussia Monchengladbach forward Marcus Thuram.
Speaking to Sport1, Monchengladbach sporting director Roland Virkus said: βWeβve decided to allow Thuram to leave. The fact he will leave on a free is not a positive situation. I canβt sugarcoat it. We have to accept that there are bigger clubs he might move to.β
Since heβs available for free, the only really good argument put forward for Thuram is the fact he wonβt cost a cent. Iβm not sold on him as a player but weβll trust Ten Hag to make his own call on that. After all, bald is best.
The Express claims a move for Thuram could make a potential Osimhen signing more likely ads United would have more money available (apparently?). How can they say that without knowing who will own United in the summer and whether Ten Hag will have a transfer kitty at all without selling players?
The financial books at United donβt read well, so itβs hard to see where the funding for Osimhen will comeβ¦
