Manchester United expected to reject Arsenalβs Alessia Russo bid
Those who follow the Manchester United Womenβs team probably feared the worst on Monday night when news broke that Arsenal had tabled a world-record bid to sign Alessia Russo.
Manchester United currently sit on top of the WSL table and losing a goalscorer like Russo, who has five goals in the league this season, would be an almighty blow.
According to The Telegraph, United are set to reject Arsenalβs bid ahead of Tuesdayβs transfer deadline.
Russo, 23, is out of contract at United this summer and she has been linked with a number of European clubs in recent months. That should give United the push they need to settle new terms with the England striker.
Arsenalβs first offer, as reported by the Athletic, would have made Russo the most expensive signing in womenβs football. That record is currently held by Keira Walsh following her switch to Barcelona from Manchester City last summer.
It would make no sense to sell Russo now when United are in such a strong position in the WSL.
Arsenal would gain a very good player and one we would be unable to replace so late in the transfer window.
The report adds that United are understood to be unwilling to weaken their starting line-up this month, and are especially reluctant to allow a star player join a domestic rival at a time they are in contention to win the title.
