Manchester United fans threaten legal action of Chelsea fixture allocation

Manchester United saw their allocation slashed for the Premier League fixture against Chelsea, despite the fact they had already sold the tickets.

Manchester United Supporters’ Trust say they will take legal action unless more away fans are allowed to attend the match at Stamford Bridge. They are targeting an emergency High Court hearing to resolve the situation unless the police amend their mistake.

United were initially allocated 2,994 away seats for the trip to Stamford Bridge, but the Metropolitan Police have now reduced that to 2,370 due to apparent policing concerns. They had no problems policing a state funeral last month, so none of this adds up and MUST certainly have a case.

A spokesperson for MUST said, as per the Manchester Evening News: β€œFor a Supporters Trust to engage lawyers is always a last resort, but enough is enough. United fans, and football supporters in general, have had their fill of being on the receiving end of unfair and irrational decisions by Councils and the Police who seem to consider us to be a pubic order problem rather than ordinary people freely enjoying a day out. Tickets had been sold for this game and fans are being treated like second class citizens.”

MUST seek a response by midday this Friday.

The game between Chelsea and United will kick-off at 5:30pm on Saturday, October 22, and the police initially wanted just 1,5000 Reds to be allowed into Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea Supporters Trust released a statement voicing their disgust that the kick-off time had only been confirmed 15 days before the fixture.

A statement from Chelsea’s Supporters Trust read (via Football London): β€œThis confirms that as long as the game can be broadcast, supporters are disposable – this is an insult & sets a dangerous precedent. We stand with MUST [Manchester United Supporters Trust] and the 624 supporters who will have their tickets cancelled.”

Credit to MUST for doing their bit on behalf of United fans.
