Manchester United fans want Portuguese striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United fans want Portuguese striker to replace Cristiano Ronaldo

Goncalo Ramos was the star of the night when Portugal booked their place in the World Cup quarter-finals.

The 21-year-old started ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and netted an impressive hat-trick in Portugal’s 6-1 win over Switzerland. Fernando Santos made a big call to drop the 37-year-old to the bench, but it turned out to be right decision as he opted for more fluidity in his attack.

Ramos became the youngest man to score a hat-trick at a World Cup knock-out match after Pele.

After being linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, we can expect more speculation to hit the newspapers in the coming weeks as Erik ten Hag looks to replace Ronaldo after his contract was terminated at the club last month following an explosive interview with Piers Morgan on TalkTV.

Ramos has filled in for Darwin Nunez at Benfica this season – and he could do the same for Ronaldo at United in the future.

Several United fans took to social media last night to tweet about Ramos and it sounds like they would like Ten Hag to target the Benfica striker.

Manchester United are you watching. Goncalo Ramos #MUFC

Gonçalo Ramos was rumoured to us in the summer but kind of went under the radar… this is the exact profile of striker I think would be perfect for ten hag…Doubt we will sign him but there are strikers out there we just need to find the right one. #MUFC

Gonçalo Ramos… Such a ten Hag type of player..

— Masecha (@LifeOfMasecha) December 6, 2022

Suppose all the twitter managers will know all about Goncalo Ramos and be screaming we should sign him in January!! #mufc.

Yeah okay bring Gonçalo Ramos to this football club

From what I’ve seen in this match alone, I would genuinely much rather United signed Gonçalo Ramos than Cody Gakpo!

Ramos is the exact type that we need for that CF position! Gakpo is too much like Rashford or Martial. We need a top class CF!#mufc

Now can you imagine if Goncalo Ramos join Manchester United on January to replace Ronaldo and he did well on second half of the season?? That would be a dream and Ronaldo gonna hurt.

I was very impressed by Goncalo Ramos. He looks a proper Striker. I hope ETH give him a look. #mufc @manutd.

Me waiting for Manchester united to develop interest in Gonçalo Ramos

— Lil Sam Agbaye (@LilSam201) December 6, 2022

Think a lot of clubs are gonna be looking at Goncalo Ramos after tonight’s performance.

I bet Benfica are also licking their lips at the price they can get for him. #mufc

Goncalo Ramos, come to Manchester United. Please.

Well as we’re desperate for a striker I don’t mind the look of either:
Gonçalo Ramos or Cody Gakpo #MUFC

Turns out good things happen when you replace Ronaldo with Gonçalo Ramos… #MUFC https://t.co/pFazHP5mRb

I sent a text message at 12:41 this afternoon saying that Manchester United should sign Gonçalo Ramos. 3 hours later he has a hat trick in a World Cup.

Hire me as a scout. https://t.co/pYzB4EaPAQ

— Brandon Beam (@BrandonBeam971) December 6, 2022

Don’t tell anyone but Goncalo Ramos is the one ain’t he? #mufc

— RedReveal (@RedReveal) December 6, 2022

The game’s been over for 9 minutes and #MUFC haven’t been linked with a £120m move for Gonçalo Ramos in January yet. These are indeed remarkable times. #PORSUI #FIFAWorldcup

Even with Ronaldo this season, United have been in dire need of a goalscorer. The Portuguese veteran wasn’t providing the goals like he did last term and ultimately left the club under a grey cloud.
