Manchester United are among a host of top European clubs interested in signing Croatian teenager Dino Klapija.

The 16-year-old striker began his career at New York City’s academy but he moved to Dinamo Zagreb this year and eventually signed a professional contact at NK Kustosija Zagreb.

According to the Daily Mail, a number of top clubs are chasing Klapija’s signature. They include Red Bull Leipzig, Barcelona, AC Milan, Juventus and United.

It is suggested that Leipzig are frontrunners in the race to sign Klapija, who could cost over Β£5 million.

Meanwhile, transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano also revealed that the a decision on the player’s side is expected soon.

Leipzig may have the upper hand over other clubs because of the development path they can promise young players. It goes without saying that they can offer a quicker route into the first team than United or Barcelona.

United need more strikers in the squad and it would make sense to step away from signing players deemed past their best. The Reds did that in recent years with Edinson Cavani, Odion Ighalo and Cristiano Ronaldo.
