Manchester United-linked midfielder speaks out as club learns asking price

Manchester United will prioritise strengthening the midfield department this summer, with uncertainty growing over the futures of Erik ten Hag’s current options.

Sofyan Amrabat will return to Fiorentina upon the expiry of his season-long loan and there are also question-marks over Casemiro and Christian Eriksen.

A number of options have been suggested in the press, with familiar faces being paired with a move to Old Trafford. Adrien Rabiot, the Juventus star, was close to joining the Reds two years ago and has been linked again this year.

Another Frenchman, Youssouf Fofana, is another player to have been linked with a move to United this year and the Monaco star has spoken out on his future, insisting there is an agreement with his club.

“I have spoken about it with the hierarchy, it isn’t a secret,” Fofana said on the subject of leaving the club, according to GOAL.

“We had exchanges and they agreed to accompany me in this new stage. If [a move] doesn’t happen, I still have a year left and I will be happy to stay.

“We were in agreement that we would accompany each other in this process in which everyone should be a winner, be it me or the club.”

As per the report, Fofana, who has been named in the senior France squad for this summer’s European championship, is available for just £20m this summer as he has just one season remaining on his deal at Monaco.

It’s likely that United will need to sell before they can invest heavily in this summer’s market but Fofana’s price tag could present an opportunity too good to pass up on.
