Manchester United star unsurprisingly heading for Old Trafford exit door

Manchester United star Victor Lindelof is reportedly expected to leave on a free transfer if he does notΒ  secure a transfer in the mid-season January transfer window.Β

It is expected that Victor Lindelof will have a reduced amount of minutes this season after the recent summer defensive signings of Leny Yoro and Matthijs de Ligt.

Yoro and De Ligt join Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez in fighting for a place in the starting XI with veteran Jonny Evans another option for Lindelof to compete with.

Despite his injury issues Yoro is expected to become involved in the first-team squad and will be ahead of Lindelof in the pecking order for Erik ten Hag.

The Swedish international became a Red Devil under Jose Mourinho in 2018.

The 30-year-old has been a good servant during his time at Old Trafford but is expected to move by the end of the season to find regular game time elsewhere.

The Swede probably featured more than he expected last campaign after the defence was plagued with injury issues.

The former Benfica star has played under several managers at United but is expected to be in his final season as a Red Devil.

According to theΒ  Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckhurst, Lindelof is set for a free transfer in the summer.

Speaking on Manchester United’s defensive plans in 2025, Luckhurst said: β€œVictor Lindelof will be released by United at the end of the season if he stays at the club beyond the January transfer window and this is likely to be the 36-year-old Jonny Evans’s final season of his playing career.

β€œHarry Maguire has entered the final year of his contract and United are due to decide on whether to trigger the one-year extension in Maguire’s deal before the end of the year.”
