Manchester United talisman Marcus Rashford outlines new targets and Ten Hag’s impact

Manchester United’s talisman Marcus Rashford has assessed his outstanding form and the impact of Erik ten Hag this season.

The 25-year-old is currently in the form of his career; 19 goals and eight assists for the season so far and levelling a club record of scoring in nine consecutive home games, a streak set by Busby Babe Dennis Viollet.

Across January, Rashford netted seven times in eight matches and was consequently awarded both United’s and the Premier League’s Player of the Month awards.

The Wythenshawe-born talent is perhaps the highest-performing forward across Europe at the moment and has been instrumental to the Reds’ outstanding resurgence under Ten Hag. The club booked their place in the Carabao Cup final, which will take place on February 26, sit third in the league and remain in contention for both the FA Cup and Europa League.

The positivity and optimism surrounding United have not been this high in a long time, and Rashford plays a huge factor in this.

Rashford weighs in on goalscoring form

United’s star academy graduate spoke to club media after winning the monthly accolades, saying: β€œIt’s obviously a nice feeling [to win the award]. For me, we’re entering one of the most important parts of the season, so I’m still looking to achieve a lot of things. Winning these types of achievements along the way always helps you to push forward and improve. I’m hoping that I can continue to do that in the coming games.

β€œI don’t know [the secret to my success]! It’s probably just being in the right place at the right time, consistently doing that. Consistently being in the areas can be toughΒ at times because the ball’s not always there. So you’re probably in there five, six, seven times before you get that one chance. It just shows the volume of work that you have to put in.Β

β€œLike I said, I’m pleased that they’re going in and I feel confident enough to take the chances when they come so it’s about searching for that chance, and you have 95 minutes in a game to do it.”

United’s No.10 assessed the impact of Ten Hag on the squad this campaign, adding: β€œI think the feeling of everything being new has settled and gone, that’s credit to the manager and his staff for creating that environment. That’s a big one, for players to settle in and feel more comfortable to try things and just be systematic.Β

β€œThe manager is obviously encouraging us to express ourselves on the pitch. I think it’s clear now that we have a way of playing, a clear identity of playing and he wants us to stick to it but in the right areas, go and express yourself and try things that can make a difference.”
