Manchester United target Joao Felix seals loan move to Chelsea

Joao Felix, who has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, has agreed a loan move to Chelsea until June 2023.Β

The forward’s agent was in talks with United, Arsenal and Chelsea before Felix ultimately decided on seeing out the season at Stamford Bridge. The news was confirmed this afternoon by Fabrizio Romano.

United were unwilling to pay the loan fee and salary expectation by the player’s agent and Atletico Madrid, whereas Chelsea have met the demands – they will pay an €11 million fee and 100% of Felix’s wages.

Before departing Spain to spend the second half of the season in London, the 23-year-old extended his current contract with Madrid until 2027. He will return to his parent club in the summer.

United wise to turn away from Felix deal

The amount that Chelsea will be forking out for a player that won’t be theirs permanently is absurd. They will be getting five months of action for roughly Β£20 million.

He is a talented and exciting player, without a doubt, but business-wise the terms made no sense for United and in this scenario, they were right to sit back and let another club lead the race.
