Manchester United will trigger two players’ contract extensions but are waiting to decide on Martial’s future

Manchester United are planning to trigger Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s contract extensions, as per ESPN.

The club are, however, opting to wait and assess Anthony Martial’s situation before making a decision on his future. His current deal would see him leave Old Trafford at the end of the season if United overlook the one-year option.

Martial is on the back of yet another injury-plagued campaign at United, which saw him start just 11 Premier League matches.

He was loaned to Sevilla in the 2021/2022 term  – in the January window – and scored just one goal in 12 appearances for the Spanish outfit before returning to Manchester.

Martial has fallen out of favour

In Erik ten Hag’s first year, the Frenchman was in line to be first-choice up front, but his ongoing fitness issues became unfathomable as the season progressed and led the club to sign Rasmus Hojlund in the summer. The young forward has now overtaken Martial in the pecking order.

The 27-year-old has featured nine times for the club so far in 2023/24; three times as a starter and six as a substitute, registering one goal and one assist.
