Memphis Depay becomes likeliest loan option for Manchester United
Manchester United are in the transfer market looking for a new striker on loan and one leading journalist believes Memphis Depay is the likeliest option.
The Red Devils have already signed Crystal Palace goalkeeper Jack Butland on loan for the remainder of the season, and there are doubts as to whether the Glazers will permit permanent signings at a time the cash flow is limited and they are trying to sell up.
According to Miguel Delaneyβs newsletter for The Independent, Manchester United were offered Atletico Madridβs Alvaro Morata on a loan deal, although they arenβt currently interested in taking that up.

Delaney stresses that United donβt have the budget for a Β£70m outlay on a striker, but there is an understanding that the club is worth more if it is in the Champions League. Thatβs why we could see the Reds push the boat out a little to sign a goalscorer in January.

It marks quite a change from five years ago, when he was the clubβs first choice, but they went for Romelu Lukaku. Itβs also going to be different to then in terms of expenditure. United donβt have the budget for anything like a Β£70m outlay on a striker. While many will point to the fact the Glazers are open to selling, the other side of that is the club is worth more if it is the Champions League. Thatβs why we may well see some movement this January along with goalkeeper Jack Butland. A loan move for someone like Memphis Depay looks likeliest, although it would take a lot to change for the club to go for Morata.β
A return to United could be on the cards for Memphis and he has just six months left on his contract at Barcelona.
Due to the ongoing financial crisis at Barcelona, Xavi wonβt be expecting any new signings so he may want to keep hold of the Dutch forward.
Alternatively they could use a loan deal to save money on wages for the next six months at least.
Let us know in the comments section if you would like to re-sign Memphis.
