Memphis Depay linked with Manchester United return

Memphis Depay linked with Manchester United return

There was speculation during the summer linking Memphis Depay with a return to Manchester United – partly because he is deemed surplus to requirements at Barcelona.

It didn’t work out for Depay at Old Trafford last time around, so I wasn’t convinced by the reports at the time, unless we were able to sign him on the cheap.

A deal presented resale value if United were to act quickly, but Antony was the only attacking signing made during the summer. The Red Devils are expected to sign a new striker next year.

However, a report from Fichajes claims United will have to fend off competition to sign Depay from Barcelona, with the La Liga club willing to let the Netherlands international leave after the World Cup.

Arsenal and Newcastle United are also being linked with the former Lyon star, who could want to prove his doubters wrong in the Premier League.

It is thought that Barcelona would demand a transfer fee of around €20 million for Depay’s signature after seeing him fall down the pecking order under Xavi.

Bad night in Europe for Barcelona

A bad result and an equally bad performance from Xavi’s side on Tuesday night in their 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan. Barcelona can only do better at home next week, but it their Champions League campaign will look set to end in tears if they fail to take all three points.

It makes us laugh at Stretty News because of how one narrative during the summer – from Spanish media – was that Frenkie de Jong had no interest in joining United because he wanted to play in the Champions League.

For that reason alone, I hope to see Barcelona in the latter stages of the Champions League.

It’s not like I think we should fear them joining us in the competition.
