Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman blasts Manchester United target
Netherlands manager Ronald Koeman has blasted Manchester United target Jeremie Frimpong for being unable to defend.
The Red Devils have been linked with Frimpong for several months, with Erik ten Hag keen on acquiring another right-back to provide competition to Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
Frimpong has impressed in Europe due to the threat he provides on the attack, however, Koeman believes that the Bayer Leverkusen wingback does not contribute enough defensively.
Consequently, he has opted to leave the 22-year-old out of the Holland squad for the forthcoming international break. Reds Tyrell Malacia and Wout Weghorst have been called up to the team.
Former United manager Louis van Gaal included Frimpong in his World Cup 2022 squad, but Koeman has voiced his concerns about the youngster ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024 qualifiers.
Koeman on Frimpong
He said (via Metro): βNo Frimpong? This is because of the system that we play in. He plays almost as a right winger. My right back should be able to defend well in the first place and I have my doubts about that.β
