Rasmus Hojlund could miss Everton game, says Erik ten Hag

Rasmus Hojlund has been labelled a doubt for this weekend’s trip to Everton, Manchester United manager has Erik ten Hag admitted in the build-up to United’s return to action following a two-week break from club football.

The third international break of the season came when United were finally starting to turn their domestic form around, with the Reds winning four of their last five games in the league.

The last game, a 1-0 win over Luton Town, saw United lose two players to injuries and there is now a chance that neither of them have recovered in time for the next game.

Earlier on Thursday, it was confirmed that Christian Eriksen will be missing for the next couple of weeks and now, there is an update on his club and international team-mate Rasmus Hojlund.

β€œRasmus Hojlund, not too bad. Everton will be a close finish but we’re working on that,” Ten Hag is quoted as saying by the official Manchester United website.

β€œWe’re not sure if he can make that but, hopefully, in the next week, he will return to the squad.”

Ten Hag’s update is not what United supporters wanted to hear ahead of a crucial period in the season and although Hojlund is yet to open his account in the Premier League, he has quickly turned into an important player.

Hojlund is the joint-top goalscorer in the Champions League, scoring five goals in as many appearances and he will be hoping to kickstart a similar streak in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

It does sound like he is unlikely to make this weekend’s trip to Everton and in his absence, Anthony Martial could return to the side.
