Rasmus Hojlundβs concerning injury issue revealed as Ten Hag reacts to forward being sidelined
Rasmus Hojlundβs injury may be slightly more serious than Manchester United initially feared.
The Red Devilsβ latest recruit was already ruled out of the opening weeks of the 2023/24 campaign before making an appearance, following an issue that was picked up on his medical tests.
United did notify supporters but opted against going into too much detail on the matter, leaving fans concerned over their new frontmanβs injury.
However, MailSport has since revealed that an MRI scan picked up on a stress response hotspot in Hojlundβs back β Β a problem which can lead to stress fractures in young athletes.
The Old Trafford faithful may remember a period when Marcus Rashford spent an extended spell on the sidelines with a double stress fracture in the 2019/2020 season, so itβs relieving that Hojlundβs situation has been flagged now when it can be tended to rather than later down the line.
United believe that adequate rest will help matters for the young striker and there is no βfundamental issue with his backβ. It does unfortunately mean that Hojlund is unable to play two matches a week for the foreseeable future, which puts a spanner in the works for Ten Hag as he looks to oversee a successful season competing on all four fronts.
Overplaying could lead to a βlengthy lay-offβ, medical sources have insisted.
MailSportβs report adds: βUnitedβs initial response to last weekβs MRI has been to give Hojlund more time to improve his fitness and to reassure the player that he is a long-term signing and will not be rushed into the team.β
Ten Hag reacts
The Dutchman was asked about the progress of his new signing and responded (via Football Daily):Β βItβs difficult to say how that process will go, but I think heβs making good progress. We have to see day by day how the process will go.β
