Two points dropped: player ratings from Man United 0 – 0 Newcastle
Manchester United have dropped two points in the race for a top-four finish as Erik ten Hag’s men failed to find a way past Newcastle in a 0-0 stalemate.
Ten Hag made a couple of changes ahead of the game, with the Dutchman dealt a blow by Christian Eriksen’s absence due to injury.
With two tough games against Tottenham and Chelsea coming up, United could have done with three points but they’ll be aiming for a return to winning ways on Wednesday.
Man United Player Ratings
David de Gea – 6
Barely had anything to do all game but at least he gets to keep a clean sheet on his 500th appearance for the club.
Diogo Dalot – 6
Not much to say about his performance – OK.
Raphael Varane – 6
Vital to have him back to fitness. Looked shaky early on and could have conceded a penalty but was solid for most of the game.
Lisandro Martinez – 8
Didn’t put a foot wrong. Any dangerous United attack came when Martinez started the move.
Luke Shaw – 6
Not much separates him and Tyrell Malacia at the moment, it will be interesting to see who plays in the bigger games.
Casemiro – 6
Started some good moves with his incisive passing and swept up well defensively.
Fred – 3
Completely lost in this system, ran around like a headless chicken at times. Ten Hag will be praying that Eriksen is back sooner rather than later. Missed a golden chance to score.
Antony – 4
Dan Burn was there for the taking when he received his yellow card but Antony was still conservative with all of his take-ons – why? The end product wasn’t there either. His goalscoring streak comes to an end.
Bruno Fernandes – 4
From attempting the killer ball at every opportunity, he is now becoming a player who prioritises recycling over trying to hurt the opposition. There were plenty of opportunities to make the Newcastle backline work but he chose to keep the ball.
Jadon Sancho – 6
A return to the side and some good moments aside, you can’t say that Ten Hag will be overly convinced.
Cristiano Ronaldo – 5
Looked upset when he came off and the only thing he should be angry at is his own performance. It wasn’t good enough.
Marcus Rashford – N/A
A brief cameo for the 24-year-old after an illness. Looked sharp.
