Former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany praised Lisandro Martinez and insisted his height is not an issue.

Kompany will be waiting to see what reception he receives from Old Trafford tonight as he returns to the Theatre of Dreams โ€“ but this time in the dugout as Burnley manager. As a former City player, the United faithful will know a win against the Clarets means even more now than it did before.

Still, the Belgian is regarded as one of the best centre-backs in Premier League history. He spoke on the Red Devilsโ€™ summer signing, Martinez, who was doubted by many rival fans before he even kicked a ball for United due to his height.

The Argentinian, who will not feature tonight as he is still celebrating being crowned a world champion with his national team, has since made all his critics eat their words, as he has been exceptional for the Reds.

Kompany on Martinez

Kompany told ESPN: โ€œNo, of course, heโ€™s not too small, no way.โ€

He added: โ€œIf you have a high line and you think early, you work early on crosses, you jump early, that mobility can give you an advantage โ€“ believe it or not. Thereโ€™s not many players who would like to play against Lisandro Martinez.โ€
