βWe play bad as a teamβ¦β: Erik ten Hag explains decision to drop United man to bench for Chelsea contest
Erik ten Hag has deployed a much-rotated Manchester United side as they undergo their final preparations to take on Chelsea this evening.
The Red Devils are looking to bounce back from their dismal display at St. Jamesβ Park last Saturday, which saw them sustain a 1-0 defeat β their 10th in all competitions this term.
Now, in order to try and ease the mounting pressure on his shoulders, Ten Hag has given his squad a reshuffle in hopes of overseeing a more spirited and convincing performance on home turf.
Marcus Rashford was one player who came under fire for his showing against Newcastle United, along with Anthony Martial, and both frontmen have consequently dropped to the bench.
Ten Hag explains Rashford decision
Regarding the England internationalβs change and whether it was down to Rashfordβs attitude, Ten Hag told Amazon Prime (as cited by The Mirror): βNo, we play bad as a team, so we canβt blame individuals for it. Itβs part of rotation, we have a very good, energised front line and everyone needs to be ready as a team.β
Kick-off is at 8.15pm against the 11th-placed Blues. Heading into the game, United are seventh.
